As we continue to develop LIDA, we will continue to think of new features we can add, either to improve the functionality of this program, or to make it easier for the users to operate.

I woke up this morning thinking of a new feature that will greatly improve the LIDA experience for new users: A “Tip of the Day” panel that pops up each; time LIDA is opened.

A similar new feature would be a popup panel for each screen in LIDA, that contains explanation and instructions about what’s on that screen and how to use that screen.

We could have a button or checkbox on each panel that says “Don’t show this again (you can turn it back on in Settings)”, and of course we would need to add the turn-on/turn-off checkboxes in the Settings or Program Admin panel.

It would definitely be quite a job to populate the content of the Tip of the Day and the Screen Help text, but I believe it would add an extra dimension of usability, especially for people new to LIDA.

What are your thoughts on us adding this as a new feature? When should we do it? There’s not enough time to add this before the Beta release, but we should be able to add it in during the Beta, before the active release.
