Importing Data Into LIDA
Importing Your Own Data Into LIDA
If you already keep your music library information in some way, you will want to import that information into LIDA, if possible.
NOTE: Before LIDA is released to the public, it will contain the capability to import properly formatted library data, and this page will be replaced with data formatting instructions.
This section provides instructions on how to do this. If these instructions are more than you have the time or ability to handle, please see our LIDA Data Import Service below.
Download the LIDA Data Import Instructions document, .
Download the Data Format Guide document, .
You will need both these documents, and a full version of Microsoft Access and Excel to import your own data into LIDA.
Our LIDA Data Import Service
We recognize three things:
- Almost every organization that has a music library already keeps their library information in some way. The vast majority – but not all – keep this in an Excel spreadsheet.
- NO ONE wants to re-type all this information into another system, so if these organizations are to use LIDA, they will need the ability to import their existing data into the LIDA database.
- Not every organization will have a person with the time, willingness, and ability to perform the procedures needed to import their data.
With this in mind, we are making available our LIDA Data Import Service.
We will import your library data for you into the LIDA database, and send you the file containing your data.
The cost for this service will depend entirely on what format your data is in, how well-organized it is, and how well it lines up with the fields that already exist in LIDA.
For example, if you only keep minimal data, such as Title, Composer, Arranger, and file number, and can send us a well-organized Excel spreadsheet of it, we could probably import that data for you for $100.
On the other hand, if your data is a big mess, and all you have is a CSV file with mixed data in each column, that could take several days and run into quite a bit of money.
