WHAT IS LIDA?

LIDA is the Ultimate Music LIbrary DAta Management System.

Every organization with a Music Library needs a way to keep information (data) about that library. Most music libraries keep information that includes title, composer, and arranger, and there are literally dozens more pieces of information various organizations keep. Some of this other information could include File Number, voices or instrumentation, style or genre, publisher, year of publication, etc.

Most people who work with music libraries keep this information in a word processor document, in a spreadsheet, or even in a text file – but they DO keep the information.

Unfortunately, all those things mentioned above are THE WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB.

This sort of information is DATA, and the right tool to keep data organized is a database. Unfortunately, most people don’t DO databases, so they use what they are comfortable with.

LIDA solves this problem.

LIDA is a database program that runs on Microsoft Access (or the free Access runtime), the most popular database program in the world.  But LIDA is strictly designed to insulate the users from having to know anything at all about databases, or about Access. All you need to do is to be able to click buttons, and type in your information.

If you have any experience at all with a Music Library, you can use LIDA.

LIDA is designed to provide virtually instantaneous answers to any questions a Music Director or Music Librarian might want to ask of their library, such as:

  • What patriotic tunes do we have that we haven’t played in the last three years?
  •  What tunes do we have by John Rutter?
  • How many listings do we have arranged by Walt Stuart?
  • What Christmas or Holiday music do we have?
  • How long has it been since we played Festive Overture?
  • What music do we have for tenor singer with band?

And pretty much any other question you can think of.

LIDA is just getting started, and as we grow, we will continue to add new features and capabilities.

OUR GOAL: To make LIDA so good and so usable, it will be come the absolute must-have data management solution for all music libraries in existence.
